DCA features Jeanne Kuhns January 10, 2005
FISH CREEK, WI - Vocalist Jeanne Kuhns will be in the spotlight at the next DCA Fireside Coffeehouse Series concert
Saturday, January 22, at 8 PM. A folk and rock performer, Kuhns sings in a style reminiscent of Joan Baez or Joni
Mitchell.
"I sing songs from the heart," she explains, "songs that convey stories of real life."
A singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Kuhns has performed since eighth grade.
"That was when I discovered my voice," she remembers. "I was singing duets with a friend and my teachers told me I had
a good singing voice and I can hear harmonies."
After the birth of her children, Jeanne Kuhns took a leave from performing, although she admits to "singing Bonnie Raitt
songs to my children when I put them to bed." Years later, Kuhns attended a White Gull Inn winter concert featuring
Annie Hill which inspired her to start down the road to performing once again. Joining the Door County community of
artists, Kuhns welcomed the opportunity to perform with her brother Roger.
"I just came alive," she recalls, "and my musical skills came back. It was wonderful."
The decision to "go solo was scary," says Kuhns, "but I needed to perform the songs that I felt so close to."
Her first solo recording, entitled "Riverbed," was released in 2002.
"Lost Moth Found," Kuhns' second recording, was funded in part by the Peninsula Arts Association and the Wisconsin
Arts Board. It is due for release later this spring.
"My CDs are about relationships, how people relate to each other. I also 'speak' from the women's perspective, and
celebrate the natural beauty of Door County," she says.
Her son Eli will accompany Jeanne in the Fireside concert performing on the keyboard as well as singing with mom.
"I'm thrilled to have Eli perform with me. It will be a very special evening for both of us," Kuhns relates.
She will perform songs from both her old CD and her soon to be released CD.
"I'll also perform songs by some of my favorite artists, those who have influenced me in my career. And I'm going to
perform some songs 'just because,'" she says with a smile.
Cafe Sole in Ephraim sponsors this concert. Refreshments will be prepared by Drink Coffee and will be available for
purchase. Tickets for the Jeanne Kuhns concert are $12, and are available at the Door Community Auditorium box office,
open Monday through Friday, 10 AM - 4 PM; and on show days from 11 AM - 4 PM; and one hour prior to a
performance.
