THE SINGER AND SONGWRITER
"Moths are attracted to the light of the moon, but in a world filled with dangerous distractions
they are often drawn to the wrong kind of light and they get burned and battered. I was like
that, drawn to a light that was not good for me. I am a lost moth that has found the true light
of the moon" from Peninsula Pulse Article 2005.
Jeanne Kuhns is a folk/blues singer, songwriter, and a passionate performer who conveys
to her audiences her love of life, women's issues and nature. She sings about the
experiences that have shaped her life with sensitivity and a sparkle in her eye , and as one
writer wrote "with her heart on her sleeve". She has been influenced by folk, blues and rock
and these threads have been woven into her music. She carries her poetic lyrics to you with
a voice that has a private, intimate quality, full and deep yet capable of sliding into a clear
high falsetto. She will breach the topics of single motherhood, surviving abuse, the beauty
of the world around her with awe and humility and humor.
After years away from music, raising children and working in her profession as a registered
nurse she is singing again. Five years ago she began singing with her brother Roger
Kuhns who had wonderful original material for her to perform. They hit the coffeehouse
circuit in Door , Kewaunee and Brown County in Wisconsin . One day she had the urge to
write a song for her son and her own music started flowing from her like a river. She sang
some of her new songs at "A Woman's Song" at
Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay,
WI, in the good company of Karen Mal, Dorothy Scott and Kathy Braaten. She then
participated in
Jan La Fontaine's "Out of the Shadows" project and book "Women in
Shadow and Light", and a new focus overtook her life. She realized that as a single Mother,
survivor of abuse, and a women who had found healing and hope, she had encouragement
to offer women and those who have suffered through these situations.

Her new CD
Lost Moth : Found is a reflection of her experiences of frustration, abuse and
healing and her observations of others in her life that have given her a new wisdom to go
forward. Recorded and produced By Hans Christian of
Allemande Music in Sister Bay ,WI.
and partially funded by
Peninsula Arts Association and Wisconsin Arts Board, she has
some of the best of Door County's musicians playing with her. Her CD is an offering of
lessons learned in Door County, reaching out to women everywhere and to a world where
we need reassurance that we can make a difference by speaking out.
Her first solo CD, Riverbed recorded by musicToears and produced by Roger Kuhns, is a
collection of soulful songs half written by Jeanne and half by Roger. These songs are love
songs, reflections of lessons that her life and her children have taught her and stories
about the world through Roger's well traveled eyes.
Jeanne has been performing concerts in Door County and the Midwest for 5 years now. She
has performed solo concerts at such venues as
Door Community Auditorium, Third
Avenue Playhouse, and played coffee houses through out the Midwest, including Café Tlazo
(Algoma, WI), Café Sole (Ephraim, WI.), Kavarna (Green Bay, WI), Riverside Café
(Minneapolis, Mn), Beaners (Duluth, Mn), Camp David (Fish Creek, WI.) ,
Town Hall Bakery
(Jacksonport, WI.) and many others.
