SINGER AND SONGWRITER
"Moths are attracted to the light of the moon, but in a world filled with dangerous
distractions they are often drawn to the wrong kind of light and they get burned
and battered. I was like that, drawn to a light that was not good for me. I am a lost
moth that has found the true light of the moon" from Peninsula Pulse Article 2005.
Jeanne Kuhns is a folk/blues singer, songwriter, and a passionate performer who
conveys to her audiences her love of life, women's issues and nature. She has
been influenced by folk, blues and rock and these threads have been woven into her
music. She carries her poetic lyrics to you with a voice that has a private, intimate
quality, full and deep yet capable of sliding into a clear high falsetto. She breaches
the topics of single motherhood, surviving abuse, and the beauty of the world
around her with awe and humility and humor.
Jeanne's second CD Lost Moth : Found is a reflection of her experiences of
frustration, abuse and healing and her observations of others in her life that have given
her a new wisdom to go forward. Recorded and produced By Hans Christian of
Allemande Music in Sister Bay, WI, and partially funded by Peninsula Arts
Association and Wisconsin Arts Board, she has some of the best of Door County's
musicians playing with her. This CD is an offering of lessons learned in Door County,
reaching out to women everywhere and to a world where we need reassurance that
we can make a difference by speaking out.
Jeanne Kuhns kicked off her career as a solo artist after performing in "A Woman's Song" at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay, WI,
in the good company of Karen Mal, Dorothy Scott and Kathy Braaten. Previously she had been singing around Door County with her brother,
Roger Kuhns, who recorded her first Cd.
In 2005 Jeanne participated in Jan Goff La Fontaine's "Out of the Shadows" project, and her book Women in Shadow and Light. This
experience is evident in Jeanne's lyrics and paintings.
Jeanne now travels around the country conducting seminars, retreats and workshops with Jan Goff La Fontaine. These workshops are
based on the positive healing approach used to interview and photograph the survivors of abuse and domestic violence in Goff La
Fontaine's book Women in Shadow and Light. Jeanne speaks as a survivor of abuse herself, and is one of the women photographed for
the book who told her story. Jeanne contributes music, poetry, collage, and self portrait experiences to augment Jan’s photography and
journaling exercises.

Jeanne is currently recording her third Cd, "Ghost Ranch", due to be released
in Spring of 2008. Many of her new songs reflect a concern for the state of the
Earth, the hardships and triumphs of youth, and the joy of creating music and art.
In addition to solo performing in coffee houses and concerts with other musicians,
Jeanne books and hosts The Town Hall Bakery Summer Concert Series in
Jacksonport, WI. These evenings are performances of nationally known musicians
on selected Friday nights in June, July, and August. Jeanne opens for the concerts
which start at 7:30 pm.
